His first “official” date with Blaine, Kurt chose a gorgeous charcoal grey suit to wear. They even splashed out and went above and beyond Breadstix, instead choosing a little a la carte restaurant in Westerville.
It was the first date Kurt had ever been on and he wasn’t sure what to expect. The simplicity of Blaine meeting him at the door with a single red rose accompanied by a kiss on the cheek, and holding hands over a candlelit table while they gazed at each other adoringly set butterflies fluttering in Kurt’s belly. He was going to enjoy being romanced.

It felt like a haze settled around Kurt in the wake of his rejection to NYADA. After the initial shock that he hadn’t made it to the place he had his heart set on, he was lost on what to do next. He felt too tired and flat to think about a Plan B and he tried to resolve himself to the fact he would be stuck in Lima forever and a day.
He was annoyed at himself for getting his heart set on one thing, but at the end of the day, he was merely human like everyone else.

With Slide by Everclear playing softly in the background, Kurt realised how poignant the lyrics were as he peeled the coloured post-it notes off all his things. For now, he was staying in Lima and he didn’t know what the next life step was. He was crushed when he got rejected by NYADA, and it had made it hard to think straight lately.
He just wanted someone to give him a fair go so he could prove himself, but what was your next choice supposed to be when it felt like no matter how hard you shouted, no one listened?

Kurt pulled open a box to find it full of belongings from his mom before she passed away when he was nine. He was overwhelmed with an urge to cry with the lingering scent of her perfume and blinking back tears, took out her large straw hat she used to wear because she burned easily, just like Kurt.
He used to laugh at the size of it when he was smaller, but now, ten years later and a young man, he sat down on the floor and hugged it to his chest to let the tears for her flow freely.

Blaine was an epic blanket thief. And not just that, he managed to starfish across the bed with the most honed of skills. Kurt had been so used to sleeping methodically before he started dating, and then Blaine started to stay over and he wasn’t sure he could have anticipated what it took getting used to sharing a bed with someone.
As much as he pretended to be annoyed, though, the truth of the matter was that snuggling up to that familiar warm body no matter what position Blaine was lying in had fast become one of his favourite things.

They say that eyes are the windows to the soul, and Kurt knew that his gave away things he was feeling that he didn’t want people to know. He tried to put up such a collected front, that no matter how much people tried to knock him down, they weren’t getting the satisfaction of seeing him stay down.
Wearing shades could hide a lot. He could put out that air of confidence whilst breaking on the inside. His favourite part about sunglasses wasn’t being a fashion accessory, but rather how they could hide that shine of tears in your eyes...

"That sundress looks like what would be spawned if the tracksuit brigade at the local bingo club had an affair with Mrs Doubtfire's table cloth in the cheap underwear section of Walmart," Kurt spat out at Rachel bitchily, arms clamping across his chest with a distasteful crinkle of his nose.
He watched in smug satisfaction as she floundered, offended, but before she could even respond, he spun on his heal and stalked away from her. Maybe he was a little bitter after everything, but even that was no excuse for him to remain in the presence of atrocious fashion sense.

He stood at the sink in the boy’s bathrooms, large droplets of water dripping off his face and splattering the front o f his neatly-pressed linen shirt. A few deep breaths were drawn as he worked to try and coax the nausea he had just given into to pass. He wanted to wash his mouth out with hot water to rid it of the feeling lingering there...
His bully, his tormentor, the bane of his existence, had just stolen the one thing Kurt had been hoping to share with someone more special than the whole world... his first real kiss.

Ever since Kurt got rejected for NYADA, he had been having weird dreams of being trapped in isolated places with no way out. The latest was a strange recreation of Castaway, where he was hairy, stuck on a raft and having in-depth conversations with a ball with Blaine’s stuck to it. He knew he it had to be a subconscious feeling of lack of control with his future, and who could blame him?
But rolling over and finding a sleepy Blaine’s arms at the ready for a comforting cuddle every single time, the bad dreams never seemed as scary then.

It wasn’t like Kurt ever expected to get attached to a canary. In fact, he was worried the thing would crap on his favourite clothes. Turned out, he was actually a sweet source of comfort to Kurt when he was falling head-over-heels for a guy that would become the love of his life... who just happened to be totally oblivious to the fact at the time.
Alas, it was Pavarotti’s sacrificial death that finally opened Blaine’s eyes to mutual feelings, and even though he was just a tiny bird, he would always be a big part of Kurt’s life experiences.
